If consciousness operates independently of the body, what happens when the body shuts down?

After several books exploring what human consciousness is and how it is cultivated, that question was still open. This book is what I found when I stopped settling for not knowing.

I didn't find the answer in any single place. I found it - or something that resembles it - by putting twenty sources on the table and cross-referencing them piece by piece:

  • Ancient sacred texts that have thought about death for millennia (the Tibetan Bardo Thdol, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Plato, the Upanishads, the Pistis Sophia, the Bible).
  • Contemporary clinical researchers of near-death experiences (Van Lommel, Greyson, Moody, Alexander, Moorjani).
  • Conscious explorers of the beyond (Swedenborg, Monroe, Stead).
  • Anglo-Saxon and French mediums (Kardec, Tymn).
  • Hypnotherapists who take their patients back to the period between lives (Newton, Cannon).

Sources separated by centuries, continents, and cultures. Some with documented influence on one another, others with no possible contact between them. What emerges when they are cross-referenced, piece by piece, is a pattern hard to explain as coincidence.

The result can be one of two things: a coherent fiction that twenty independent sources happened to assemble separately, or a map of what happens when we die.

I am not a physician, nor a theologian, nor a professional philosopher. I am an industrial engineer. My aim is to cross-reference data, look for patterns, and strip out noise. This book is what that work produced when applied to the greatest of human enigmas.

The pieces are here. Each reader decides whether they fit.

To dissolve the ego in life is to experience what death reveals.
