The book presents a collection of research papers on Indian English literature that are wide ranging in nature, dealing with fiction, poetry, drama and critical trends. They cover earlier writers, such as Sri Aurobindo and Bhabani Bhattacharya as well as recent ones such as Shashi Deshpande and Manju Kapoor. There is also a brief survey of Indian English novel since 1980. Areas such as decolonising English in India as well as the impact of American English on Indian English have also been included.
Mukesh Ranjan Verma, an M.A. from Allahabad University, started his teaching career as a Lecturer in English at a post-graduate college of Avadh University (U.P.) in 1977. He joined L.N. Mithila University (Bihar) as Reader in English in 1988 on the recommendation of the Bihar State University Service Commission, Patna. At present he is Professor and Head of Department of English at Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar (Uttaranchal). Prof. Verma has published one book, The Alien Land and a large number of research papers on both English and Indian English literature. His chief area of interest is Indian English fiction. At present, he is working on his forthcoming book on Arun Joshi, the noted Indian English novelist. Krishna Avtar Agrawal started his teaching career as a Lecturer in English. At present, he is Reader in English at Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar (Uttaranchal). He obtained his M.A. Degree from Lucknow University and Ph.D. degree from Meerut University, Meerut. Dr. Agrawal has contributed many research articles to prestigious journals of India. He has published more than one dozen books on English and Indo-Anglian literature. He has also edited two books on Swami Shraddhananda Saraswati — Socio-Political Observations of Swami Shraddhananda and Editorial Observations of Swami Shraddhananda. He is also Editor of The Vedic Path (Gurukul Kangri University’s quarterly English journal).
