The proposed book explains various aspects and methods of research. The subject matter is divided into 12 chapters, each dealing with pertinent requirements of research. Chapter 1 is an introduction to research, while chapter 2 describes various variables and their use in social research. Formulation of a research problem has been explained in chapter 3, and hypothesis and research questions have been taken up in chapter 4. Research design, types of research design, and review of literature are discussed in the next three chapters, respectively. Tools of data collection, and sampling design in research, are described in chapters 8 and 9, respectively. How to write a research proposal, report writing, and ethics in social research have been dealt with in the last three chapters of the book. The book will be useful for the students of management and those pursuing M.Phil and Ph.D. It will also help those who are conducting academic research in any field, in writing their thesis, etc.
Professor S.K. Pant has been associated with Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad which is a deemed Institute of Allahabad Central University for over three decades. He has been teaching two full courses on Quantitative Techniques and Research Methods to MBA and M. Phil. students. He has so far published five books on different social issues and published over 50 research articles in national and international journals. He has carried out research projects for prestigious institutions like Planning Commission, NCERT, New Delhi, Ministry of Human Resource Development, UNICEF, Planning Department, State Project Office, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi, and other autonomous bodies of the State Governments.
