Bharatbarser Itihas: Kristapurva 300 abdo theke kristiya 750 abdo (Bangla) is written in Bangla original as per the CBCS syllabus Paper III: History of India II (circa 300 BCE to CE 750) for the undergraduate students of University of Calcutta. This book will also be useful to the aspirants of IAS/PCS examinations.

The book covers the history of India during the period from c. 300 BCE to CE 750 . This period witnessed social, economic, political and cultural changes in India. For understanding these changes the period has been divided in various sub-periods. After the Maurya empire (c. 325 to c. 187 BCE) the Indo-Greeks, Sakas, Sungas, Kanvas, Kushanas, Satavahanas, Pandyas and Cholas ruled different parts of the Indian subcontinent. The book deals with the Gupta empire (CE fourth to mid-sixth century) and other political powers which ruled over India during these centuries. The book makes a brief survey of languages and literatures of Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit and Tamil; and discusses art and architecture and patronage during the Mauryan, post-Mauryan, Gupta and post-Gupta periods.

The book has maps and illustrations for better understanding of the subject. A detailed bibliography is given at the end of the book.

Dr Krishnendu Ray is Associate Professor, Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture, University of Calcutta, Alipur Campus.
