Considered one of the most significant works of Sigmund Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams is a psychoanalytical inquiry that examines the theory of the unconscious through the lens of dream interpretation. It dives into the underlying meanings of our dreams, providing useful insights into our aspirations, fears and unresolved issues. While the first publication of the book only sold 600 copies in eight years, it subsequently acquired popularity, with seven further editions published during Freud's lifetime. Discussions on the theories of dream analysis and manifest and latent dream content, among others, shaped the field of psychoanalysis. By exploring the inner workings of the human mind and evaluating several real-life examples, Freud paved the royal road for the readers to embark on a journey into the unconscious.

About The Author

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founding father of psychoanalysis, a revolutionary theory and therapeutic technique that sought to explore the unconscious mind. Freud’s work laid the foundation for modern psychology, emphasising the role of unconscious desires, repressed memories and early childhood experiences in shaping human behaviour. His theories on the id, ego and superego, as well as the stages of psychosexual development, have left a lasting imprint on both psychology and cultural studies. Despite the controversy surrounding some of his ideas, Freud’s influence on the field of mental health, literature and art remains profound.
