Nostradamus (1503–1566), born Michel de Nostredame, was a French astrologer, physician, and famed prophet whose predictions have made him a historical icon. Hailing from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, he studied medicine at the University of Avignon and travelled across Europe to treat plague victims. His blending of astrology and medicine led to his famous work, Les Prophéties, published in 1555. Nostradamus’s often vague predictions gained immense popularity, with many asserting that he foretold key historical events, including the rise of Napoleon and Hitler, alongside various disasters. Despite debates regarding his predictions' accuracy, his impact on astrology and literature endures.
