Das Buch entstand aus langjahriger Vorlesungspraxis in Berlin und den Erfahrungen der miindlichen Priifungen am Ende des 2. Studienabschnit tes. Es wendet sich daher primar an Studierende der Pharmazie und be riicksichtigt den Ausbildungsstand der Pharmazeuten in den medizini schen Grundlagenfachern. Kurze Hinweise auf Physiologie und Bioche mie habe ich deshalb als Erganzung in entsprechende Kapitel eingeflochten. Mein Ziel war es, eine Einfiihrung in die Pharmakologie und Toxikolo gie zu schreiben und die zum Verstandnis der Arzneimittelwirkungen not wendigen Grundlagen in kurzer und iibersichtlicher Form zu vermitteln. Pharmakodynamik, Pharmakokinetik und Anwendung einzelner Wirkstof fe oder Wirkstoffgruppen werden nach ihrer Bedeutung in der klinischen Anwendung vorgestellt. Ein Taschenbuch ist kein Handbuch. Ich habe daher einer klaren und verstiindlichen, und manchmal auch bewuBt vereinfachenden, Darstellung wichtiger Arzneimittel den Vorzug vor einer liickenlosen Wiedergabe gege ben. Der Text soIl der Wiederholung des in der Vorlesung Gehorten dienen und die Vorbereitung auf das Examen erleichtern. Dem tragt auch die enge Anlehnung an den Gegenstandskatalog fiir den 2. Abschnitt der Pharma zeutischen Priifung Rechnung. Das Kapitel "Toxikologie" wurde von Herrn PD Dr. H.Spielmann ver faBt.
