Die Frage nach einer moglichen Stimulierung der Knochenneubildung ist seit mehr als 100 Jahren Gegenstand der Forschung. Bis heute gibt es jedoch keine Methode, die mit einiger ZuverIassigkeit geeignet ware, die Ausheilung eines Knochenbruches durch Anregung der Knochen- gewebsentwicklung zu beschleunigen. Weder chemische noch physikali- sche, diatetische oder medikamentose, klimatische oder am neurovege- tativen System angreifende Verfahren haben sich - trotz mancher Teil- ergebnisse - bisher als erfolgversprechend oder aber als am Menschen praktikabel erwiesen. Der Autor hat die vielerorts erarbeiteten Ansatze einer Beeinflussung der Osteogenese mit Hilfe des elektrischen Stromes aufgegriffen und durch Systematisierung eine tierexperimentelle Grundlage geschaffen, die eine gefahrlose Ubertragung der Methodik auf den Menschen gestattet. Er hat aber auch gezeigt, welche Wege elektrischer Therapie in diesem Zu- sammenhang als aussichtslos angesehen werden mussen. Ob die im Tier- versuch ermittelten Parameter auch fur den vitalen menschlichen Knochen zutreffen, wird die Zukunft lehren mussen. Der Weg aber ist mit dieser grundlegenden Arbeit gewiesen. G.
