Die erfolgreiche earbeitung dieses immensen Problemkreises stellt ohne Zweifel die bisher graBte Herausforderung an die menschliche Gesellschaft sowohl in technischer als auch in ethischer Sicht dar. Es wird dafUr notwendig sein, noch bis vor kurzem weitgehend auBer Streitstehende Ansichten zu Uberdenken und damit auch die Aufga- ben von Technik und Naturwissensthaft etwas anders zu sehen als bisher. Dies ist besonders wichtig, weil die letzteren Diszipli- nen in hohem MaBe bei der Lasung dieser Probleme mitzuwirken haben. Man wird insbesondere darUber entscheiden mUssen, inwieweit in be- reits hochentwickelten Industriegesellschaften technischer Fort- schritt auf der Grundlage weiter ansteigenden Energiebedarfes noch wUnschenswert ist, da die derzeit erfolgversprechendste und einzig wirksam erscheinende M6glichkeit zur Entlastung der angespannten Energieversorgungslage das Einsparen darstellt. Energieversorgung auf der Grundlage von Erd6lverbrennung bzw. Kernspaltung von angereichertem Uran stellt infolge der diesbe- zuglichen Brennstoffverknappung keine langerfristige M6g1ichkeit mehr dar. Kohleverbrennung oder -verflUssigung mit nachfolgender Verbrennung ist wegen der damit verbundenen Umweltbelastung auBerst problematisch, zusatzlich wird auch dabei eine VerfUgbarkeit von nur wenigen hundert Jahren offenbar.
