Während in diesem nur das sorgfältig gesichtete Wissen um die natürlichen Heilkräfte von Badgastein zur Darstellung kam und die Behandlung der sich daraus ergebenden ärztlichen Probleme der Gastei- rrer Kur einem späteren Ba111de vorbehalten bleiben sollte, werden hier die Heilkräfte, Heilverfahren u n d Heilkuren von Bad Gleichenberg in engstem Zusammenhang mitein- ander behandelt. Der Unterschied liegt im Wesen der beiden Kurorte. In Badgastein sind die Wirkungsfaktoren und der Wir- kungsmechanismus der be.iden wichtigsten Kurmittel, der hochradioaktiven Therme und des ganz besonderen Klima- milieus, noch immer rätselhaft; daher hat sich dort die bal- neologische Forschung vor allem der Zergliederung der na- türlichen Heilfaktoren zugewandt und die Arbeiten darüber nehmen seit Jahrhunderten den grö ten Raum ein. In Bad Gleichenberg dagegen bieten Heilquellen und Klima kaum mehr Rätsel; dafür aber hat hier die praktisch- baineologische Arbeit - dem ganz anderen Charakter der Heilquellen entsprechend - vor allem zur Entwicklung mannigfaltiger Anwendungsformen für die Natronsäuer- linge geführt. Das alkalische Heilwasser entfaltet, in der Trinkkur, als Inhalation, als Spülung usw. gebraucht, vor al- lem bei Erkrankungen des Atmungsapparates seine fast nie versagende Wirkung. Die Erfahrung von mehr als einem Jahrhundert hat aber gezeigt, da sich die Kurerfolge noch wesentlich verbessern lassen, wenn zusätzlich noch andere Hilfsmittel der physikalischen Therapie, wie Biomotor, pneu- Vorwort.
