Die in Bildfolgen enthaltene Information kann mit sehr unterschiedlichen Abstraktionsgraden beschrieben werden: Die Angabe eines Helligkeitswerts für jeden Punkt jedes Einzelbildes ist eine sehr niedrige Beschreibungsebene, die Darstellung einer Geschichte eine sehr hohe. Eine automatische Erzeugung von Beschreibungen aus den Bilddaten ist bisher nur für niedrigere Abstraktionsstufen möglich, eine Beschreibung auf der Ebene von Episoden wird hier entwickelt. Die vorliegende Arbeit entwirft ein System für die Extraktion von Beschreibungen auf der Ebene von Episoden, ausgehend von einer Beschreibung, die für jedes Objekt die Koordinaten zu jedem Zeitpunkt enthält. Typische Episoden aus dem Diskursbereich "Stra enverkehr" sind "Parkplatzsuchen" oder "auf die Stra enbahn warten" oder "Vorfahrt mi achten". Zu diesem Zweck wird eine Darstellungsform für Episodenmodelle entwickelt, die sich an KL-ONE orientiert und unter anderem die Modellierung von zeitlichen Aspekten ermöglicht. Da der Datenumfang für Bildfolgen, die Episoden enthalten können, sehr gro ist, erscheint die Unterstützung durch Datenbanksysteme ratsam. Daher wird die Übertragung der Darstellungsform auf das relationale Datenmodell eingehend untersucht. Zur Beschreibung der Prozesse, die die Zuordnung zwischen Episodenmodellen und Bilddaten herstellen, dienen Regelsysteme auf der Gundlage von erweiterten Übergangsnetzen. Der implementierte Prototyp extrahiert Episoden aus einer Bildfolge aus dem Diskursbereich "Stra enverkehr". Die Arbeit liegt im Überschneidungsbereich der Gebiete Bilddeutung, Wissensrepräsentation und Datenbanken. Anregungen aus den verschiedenen Gebieten können für jeweils andere Gebiete übernommen werden. Es wird gezeigt, da die Kopplung von zwei Problemkreisen - komplexe Strukturen und gro e Datenmengen - im Prinzip möglich ist. Noch zu lösende Probleme bei der Kopplung werden angesprochen.
