Der Beginn del' fabrikmassigen !ierstellung del' Verbandstoffe faUt in den Anfang del' siebziger Jahre unseres Jahrhunderts, als Professor von Bruns die gebleichte und hydrophile Charpiebaumwolle in den Verbandstoffschatz und Professor Lister die antiseptische Wundbehandlung einfiihrten. - Damals und noch in den ersten Jahren nach Griindung diesel' neuen Industrie waren es verbaltniss- massig wenige Artikel, die herzustellen waren; Baumwolle-Watten und -Stoffe bildeten so ziemlicb das einzige Grundmaterial, abgesehen von Nah- und Drainagemitteln; und von Impragnirungen wurden kaum mehr als solche mit Karbolsaure, Salicylsaure, Sublimat und Borsaure ausgefiihrt. - Das ist inzwischen von Grund aus anders geworden. Nicht nur, dass es niemals an Versucben feblte, die Banmwolle durch andere Materialien zu ersetzen und neben diese Ascbe, Sand, Torf, Moos, Holzwolle, Cellulose, Papier etc. einzufiihren, sondern es brachte auch jedes JabI' zablreiche neue Antiseptica, die in der Branche verarbeitet werden mussten. Die aseptiscbe Wund- behandlung und die stetig wachsende Nachfrage nach sterilisirten Verb and stoff en brachten eine grosse Veranderung in den bisherigen Betrieb, besonders dadurch, dass nun ancb derVerpackung eine er- hObte Sorgfalt gewidmet werden musste. Die in zwischen machtig angewachsene Konkurrenz that ein Uebriges, sich mit neuen Prapa- raten oder Aufmachungen einzufiihren und die Artikelliste einer Ver- bandstoff-Fabrik mehr und mehr zu vergrossern. - Die Zunahme del' Konkurrenz veranlasste, wie es natiirlich und in anderen In- dustrien ebenfalls ist, ein bestandiges Sinken del' Verbandstoffpreise' 'Val' dasselbe auch zum grossen Theile begriindet in del' standigen Vorwort.
