Fahrenholz (1925), Noble (1926), Bergeot und Wintrebert (1926) sowieWintre- bert (1928) haben die Vorstellung korrigiert, daB die Larve der Geburtshelferkrote (Alytes o. obstetricans) beim Schliipfen die Eihiillen durchbeiBt (zuletzt noch Re- mane, 1923), sie durch heftige Bewegungen offnet (Werner, 1922) bzw. sich dureh die Eischale bohrt (Wunder, 1932). Trotzdem ist an dem dafiir wichtigen Ge- bilde. niimlich dem sog. Stirnstreifen, auch als Stirnorgan oder -driise bezeichnet. noch vieles problematisch. \Vie ein Vergleich der bisherigen Angaben zeigt, ist in anatornischer Hinsicht schon die Form des Gesamtorgans unvollstandig gekliirt. DeutIich ist bisher, daf die Verhaltnisse im wesentlichen so sind, wie sie offenbar fur die allermeisten Froschlurche (A nura, Salientia) zutreffen. Mogliche Besonderheiten bei Alytes durften in erster Linie von der eigenartigen Brutpflege mit dem ungewohnlichen Luftaufenthalt des Laiches und der damit zusammen- hiingenden starken Verfestigung der Eihiillen herriihren. Die Kenntnis vom Schliipfvorgang der Anuren mit der maBgebenden Funktion einer spezielIen Druse griindet sich auf Bles (1905), der die Verhaltnisse bei X enopus laevis analysierte. Davor sind zwar auch schon gewisse Feststellungen getroffen worden, wurden aber falsch oder gar nicht erkliirt. Danach hat sich eine Vielzahl von Forschern mit dem Problem bei einer ganzen Reihe von Frosch- lurehen auseinandergesetzt. Eine Ubersicht tiber die verstreute Literatur gibt die Tabelle I, welche die alte Zusammenstellung von Lieberkind (1937) erganzt und ablast.
