Das ist bier erstens die grundsiitJlicbe uDd moglicbst strenge Wabrnng der Wissenscbaftlicbkeit der Pbilosopbie. Gegen- iiber aller dogmatiscben Konstruktion und gegeniiber aller pastoralen Lebenspbilosopbie soll bier die Pbilosopbie als Wissenscbaft gefaBt werden. Was sie durcb wissenscbaftlicbe Erkenntnis geben kann nnd was nicbt, soll in eingebender Begriindung dargelegt werden. DaB es aucb andere Arten, Pbilosophie zu treiben, gibt. wird niebt geleugnet, aber klar gesebieden. Ein zweiter Rechtfertigungsgrund liegt darin. daB die hier gegebene Darstellung der Philosopbie dureb keine der gegenwiirtigen EinfUbrungeu ersetJt wird, weder hinsicbtlich des Weltbegriffes noch weniger hinsicbtlieh der Wertlebre. Es kann nieht die Aufgabe einer Einfiibrung sein, die Philosopbie in allen ihren Zweigen und in ibrer Gescbicbte in einer zusammengedriingten Obersicht mit einer FiilIe von Namen und Faehausdriicken vorzulegen. Dergleicben kann ein Kompendium zur Wiederholung fUr Priifungen abgeben, aber es kann nicht in das Verstiindnis der Pbilosophie ein- fiihren. Die meist iibliche Vorfiihrung der verscbiedenen Rich- tungen in der Philosophie mit einer kurzen, kritiscben Stel- lungnahme zu einer jeden ist dazu nicht geeignet. Nicht nur, daB diese Richtungen zu einem groBen Teil nur historiscbe und gar nieht aktuelle sind, sondern aucb, daB sie nur in sebr gedriingter Form besprochen werden konnen, kann nur eine oberfliichliche Kenntnis vermitteln.
