Zu Beginn der achtziger Jahre wurde ein wichtiges Datum in der Geschichte des Automobilbaues gefeiert: 50 Jahre Frontantrieb im Serienfahrzeugbau. Dieses Er- eignis weckte das Interesse an Entwicklung, Theorie und Zukunft der Gelenkwellen und Gelenke. Das gesamte damals vorhandene Wissen iiber Gleichlauf-und Kreuz- gelenkwellen stellten die Verfasser bereits 1988 in Deutsch, 1992 in Englisch und 1997 in Chinesisch dar. Inzwischen ist mehr als ein Jahrzehnt vergangen, und die Technik hat auch auf dem Gebiet der Gelenkwellen groBe Fortschritte gemacht. Kinematik und Kon- struktion entsprechen den sHindig steigenden Anspriichen der unterschiedlichen Anwender. Stiirkere Motoren mit hoheren Drehmomenten und neue Einsatzgebiete mit gesteigerten Belastungen, z. B. in Gelande-und Schwerlastwagen sowie in Walz- werken, verbesserte Werkstoffe, neuartige Produktionsverfahren und hochent- wickelte Priif-und Versuchsmethoden stellten vollig neue Anforderungen an das Maschinenelement Gelenkwelle. GKN Automative leistete einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Weiterentwicklung der Gelenkwelle und wird ihn auch zukiinftig erbringen. In ihren vier Forschungs-und Entwicklungszentren haben GKN-Ingenieure Grundsatzwissen erarbeitet und Pro- duktverbesserungen definiert zum Nutzen der Automobil-und Landmaschinen- industrie und des Maschinenbaues in aller Welt. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit ihren Kunden schuf GKN gerauscharme, schwingungs-und wartungsfreie Gelenkwellen. Das gesamte Wissen ist in diesem Buch zusammengetragen und in seiner zweiten deutschen Auflage auf den neuesten Erkenntnisstand gebracht worden.
