Das hier vorliegende Buch soil in erster Linie zur Hilfe im Laboratorium dienen, es solI die Handhabe bilden zur Erkennung der haut- pathogenen Pilzarten im frischen Praparat, soweit dies moglich ist, und soIl fiir die Herstellung der Kultur, sowie fur die Diagnose der letzteren die Anleitung geben. Der groBe, inhaltreiche Band der Dermatomykosen im JADASSoHNschen Handbuch der Haut- und Geschlechtskrankheiten, Bd. XI, ist zu umfangreich und zu kostspielig, um in jedem Laboratorium zur Hand zu sein, hier soIl dieses kleinere Buch den Ersatz bieten und dabei zugleich einen orientierenden Uber- blick geben iiber das jetzt so groB gewordene Gebiet der Pilzkunde. Die Klinik der Pilzerkrankungen zu schildern, war hier nicht beabsichtigt, deshalb finden sich nur ganz kurze Angaben dariiber bei der speziellen Beschreibung der einzelnen Pilzspezies. Die Vollstandigkeit, wie sie fur das Handbuch erstrebt wurde, war fiir dieses kleinere Buch nicht mogHch, manche Pilzart, die nm in emmaliger, spater nicht wiederholter Beobachtung des Autors vorliegt, auch verschiedene, nicht allzuhaufig vorkommende tropische Pilze muBten wegen des nur beschrankt zur Verfiigung stehenden Raumes als weniger wichtig weg- fallen oder konnten nur ganz kurz erwahnt werden, alle wesentlichen Spezies von hautpathogenen Pilzen aber wurden in ihren Eigenschaften geschildert.
