He is a consultant pulmonologist at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, India. Dr. Upadhya's areas of interest include medical statistics, clinical medicine, CT chest, non-invasive ventilation, interstitial lung diseases, lung cancer, and airway disorders (COPD).
