Ich wonte eine mogliehst vollstandige, auf sieherer theoretischer Grundlage basirte Arbeit liefern. Das Thema freilieh ist anseheinend mehr von praktiseher Bedeutung, und gewiss ist es von grosster Wichtigkeit, die Sehlussergebnisse in jedem Fall jn fiir den Gebrauch mogliehst bequemer Form zu geben. Aber die Physik ist noeh nieht soweit, dass die ihrem Gebiet angehOrenden praktisehen Arbeiten rein schematiseh behandelt werden konnten, und nieht wenige dieser Arbeiten bilden noeh jetzt den Gegenstand eingehendster wissen- sehaftlieher Untersuehung. Zudem glaube ieh nieht, dass jemand eine Wissensehaft oder eine Kunst mit Erfolg betreiben kann, der ihre Grund- lagen nieht kennt und sich nur an die erlernten Regeln halt; und gerade in den Naturwissensehaften ist eine gehOrige Einsieht in das Wesen der Saehe notwendig.
