Die rasche Entwicklung der auf dem Gebiet der Angewandten Mineralogie be- triebenen Materialforschung hat unser Verstandnis fiir das Zusammenspiel von Einkristall- und Texturverhalten anisotroper Festkorper wesentlich erweitert und verfeinert. Ein friiher kaum beachtetes Spezialgebiet der Mineralogie ist zu einer ausgereiften und nun schon fast uniibersehbaren Wissenschaft herangewachsen. Noch vor wenigen Jahren konnte jeder interessierte Mineraloge - gleichsam nebenher - alle Arbeiten tiber das Materialverhalten anisotroper Festkorper leicht lesen und verarbeiten. Heute erscheinen tiber dieses Thema rund tausend Arbeiten pro Jahr, und aus der Zunahmerate laBt sich ablesen, daB diese Zahl kiinftig wohl noch zunehmen wird. Dieser Sachverhalt begrtindet die Notwendig- keit einer zusammenfassenden Darstellung des heutigen Wissensstandes. Die in dieser Monographie zusammengefaBten Untersuchungsergebnisse be- riihren einen Forschungszweig der Angewandten Mineralogie, der mit den Grund- lagenwissenschaften Mathematik, Physik und Kristallkunde eng gekoppelt ist. Urspriinglich war daran gedacht, auBer der Behandlung der thermischen und elektrischen Eigenschaften der Festkorper auch Probleme der magnetischen, elastomechanischen und piezophysikalischen Anisotropie in die Monographie mit aufzunehmen, doch hatte dies den Rahmen des Buches gesprengt. 1m Rahmen der Geftigemechanik seien die im Springer-Verlag erschienenen Symposien von J. GREWEN und G. WASSERMANN (1969) sowie P. PAULITSCH (1970) hervorgeho- ben, welche sich mit Texturen in Forschung und Praxis sowie mit der experi- mentellen und nattirlichen Gesteinsverformung befassen. In der letztgenannten Ver- offentlichung sind eigene Untersuchungen des Verfassers auf dem Gebiet der mechanischen Regelungseigenschaften monomineralischer Gesteine bei gerichteter Beanspruchung publiziert worden.
