Diese Monographie soIl keine spezielle Symptomatologie oder Differentialdiagnose innerer Erkrankungen darstellen; wo Krankheiten oder Symptome aufgefiihrt werden, sind sie als Beispiele gedacht. Noch weniger hatte ich einen Exkurs iiber die medizinische Dokumentation oder Statistik im Auge, fiir die ich mich als nicht zustandig erachte. Meine Absieht war vielmehr eine kritisehe Auseinandersetzung mit der Methodenlehre der medizinischen Diagnostik zu einem Zeitpunkt, wo sich 'ein Wandel abzeichnet - wo neue Verfahren entwickelt und mit reichlichen VorschuBlorbeeren bedacht, wo alte Traditionen nieht ohne Sentimentalitat verteidigt werden."
