Die Zeichen einer globalen Umweltkatastrophe werden immer deutlicher. Jedoch: Können wir sie mit dem, was wir wissen, noch abwenden? Was wissen wir schon über komplex verzahnte Ökosysteme? Müssen wir nicht schon we- gen des anhaltend rasanten Anstiegs unseres Wissens und dessen wissenschaftlicher, techni- scher und ökonomischer Umsetzung den jeweils aktuellen Kenntnisstand mit Bescheidenheit betrachten? Bieten die Wissenschaften Chancen für eine Änderung der bisherigen Entwick- lungsprozesse? Sind sozialwissenschaftliche Ansätze erkennbar, die ein derartiges "neues" Wissen auch gesellschaftlich umzusetzen vermögen? Stehen dem nicht wirtschaftliche Sach- zwänge entgegen? Hat die Ökonomie eine konsensfähige Strategie zum Einbezug der Ökolo- gie entwickelt? Und schlie lich, welche Hoffnungen kann die Ethik erfüllen? Unser Handeln für und gegen die natürliche Umwelt ist geleitet von dem durch Wissen- schaft "erfahrenen" Wissen oder zumindestder Vermutung, etwas zu wissen.
