Viele diagnostische Entscheidungsschritte in der Medizin beruhen darauf, dass erhobene Befunde mit sogenannten "Normalwerten" oder "Referenz-Standards" verglichen werden. Erst dadurch erhalten sie ihren Stellenwert im diagnostischen Prozess; hieraus leitet sich aber auch die besondere Bedeutung her, die der sorgfaltigen, nach den Methoden deskriptiver Statistik vorgenommenen Definition die- ser Standards beizumessen ist. Ein Schwerpunkt dieser Studie liegt darin, solche "Referenz-Stan- dards" mit m5glichster Sorgfalt, vor allem aber auch unter Be- rUcksichtigung einer Anzahl von wichtigen Einflussgr5ssen heraus- zuarbeiten. Diese Aufgabe ist im Bereich der Neurographie und mit dieser Zielsetzung bislang nur unvollstandig gel5st worden. Hier- aus ergibt sich indessen der praktisch-diagnostische Nutzen der vorgestellten Ergebnisse, indem fUr die Beurteilung von individu- ellen Messwerten nunmehr eine methodisch wohldefinierte Grundlage zur VerfUgung gestellt wird. Im Fortschritt der zugrunde liegen- den Untersuchungen ergaben sich jedoch zunehmend differenziertere und haufig Uberraschende Einblicke in die Effekte von Einfluss- gr5ssen auf neurographische Messwerte. Sie haben schliesslich ein komplexes GefUge von Strukturbeziehungen erkennen lassen, aus dem neue und interessante Hypothesen und dam it auch neue Impulse fur die klinisch-neurophysiologische Grundlagenforschung hergeleitet werden. Die Bedeutung dieser Monographie reicht daher noch we- sentlich Uber den Rahmen einer Erstellung von statistisch fun- dierten Standardwerten neurographischer Messgr5ssen heraus.
