This book subtly presents the Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus (PPRV), a morbillivirus closely related to rinderpest virus, that decimates sheep and goats along with those of other susceptible domestic ruminants and many wildlife species. Following its first introduction to the West Africa in 1940, PPRV was rapidly disseminated across sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Southern Asia. Dr. Muhammad Abubakar is a veterinary epidemiologist and has over 20 years experience in different areas of animal health. Dr Abubakar is also leading One health expert and has participated in the development of national action plans relating to AMR and zoonosis. He has been associated with the FAO of the United Nations for activities relating to national animal disease control programs.
