Dabei wurden die klassischen gravimetrischen Ver- fahren weitgehend durch chemisch-instrumentelle Methoden ersetzt. Die Bestimmung der Hauptkomponenten in magmatischen, metamorphen und sedimentaren Gesteinen und in Mineralen gehort im Rahmen ei- nes speziellen Praktikums zum Studium der Mineralogie, teilweise auch der Geologie und Bodenkunde. Aber auch von Laboranten und Chemotechnikern werden wahrend der Lehrzeit oder an den Chemie- schulen, spater an Instituten und in der Industrie, haufig Teil- oder Vollanalysen von Silikaten ausgefUhrt. Speziell aus dem an Kursen Uber Gesteinsanalyse teilnehmenden Personenkreis wurde haufig der Wunsch nach einem Buch zur schnellen Information fiber einige gebrauchliche Verfahren der Gesteinsanalyse geauBert. Ein fUr den Anfanger geeignetes Kompendium ist jedoch nicht greif- bar. Wir haben uns daher entschlossen, unter Verwendung eines im Laborbetrieb und in Praktika seit mehreren Jahren benutzten Ma- nuskriptes eine am Arbeitsplatz verwendbare Lern- und Arbeits- unterlage fUr Studenten, chemisch-technische Assistenten und Laboranten vorzulegen. An diesen speziellen Benutzerkreis wendet sich das vorliegende Praktikumsbuch. Es ist nicht beabsichtigt, den bereits vorhandenen Monographien Uber Mineral- und Gesteins- analysen ein wei teres Exemplar hinzuzufUgen. Es wird im Gegen- teil empfohlen, bei speziellen Fragestellungen und Methoden auf eines der HandbUcher, z. B. MAXWELL (1968), zurUckzugreifen. Fast jeder Dozent hat eigene Vorstellungen Uber das Programm und den Aufbau eines Praktikums bzw. Kurses fiber Gesteinsanalyse und eine verstandliche Vorliebe fUr die im eigenen Labor benutzten Methoden.
