Dabei haben sich die Wanderjahre verschoben. Es sind heute die alteren Jahrgange, die sich dauernd auf Wanderschaft befinden. leh habe den Eirldruek, daB man im Gegensatz dazu die jiingeren Jahrgange maneh- mal noeh zum Reisen ermuntern muB. Sie reisen weniger, teilweise vielleicht zu wenig. Das hiingt mit ihren amtlichen Verpflichtungen und mit ihren wirt- schaftlichen Verhaltnissen zusammen. Teilweise halt sie aueh der Eifer, mit dem sie ihre Laboratoriumsarbeit betreiben, yom Reisen abo Hier scheint es mir manehmal angebracht, die Reiselust zu fOrdern und Reisemogliehkeiten zu sehaffen. leh denke dabei in erster Linie an wechselseitige Laboratoriumsbesuehe. Die Alteren sollten jede Hilfe geben, urn kiirzere Besuche wie langere Aufent- halte an einem andern Laboratorium zu ermoglichen. Es wiirde manchem von unseren Forschern aus der Einseitigkeit seines Denkens heraushelfen. Es wiirde die wissenschaftliche Arbeit befruchten. Es wiirde Verstandigung und Freundschaft zwischen denen schaffen, die friiher oder spater fUr die Gestaltung der Wissenschaft verantwortlieh sein werden. Symposien konnen ahnlichen Zielen dienen. Ich halte es fUr eine groBc Gefahr, daB die Teilnehmerzahl bei Symposien zu groB wird.
