Die Technisierung des Lebens hat viele Anderungen unserer Gewohnheiten mit sich gebracht, welche die Ubung und Leistung des Haltungs-und Bewegungs- apparates einschranken. Der Mensch fahrt in seiner Freizeit Auto statt zu wandern. Auch beim Arbei- ten steuert er sitzend eine Maschine, die ihm fruher erforderliche korperliche Be- tatigung abnimmt. Das Fehlen physiologischer Anstrengungen und Bewegungen fUhrt allgemein, besonders aber an Muskeln, Bandern und Geleuken zur Leistungs- minderung, bei Jugendlichen sogar zur Storung der Entwicklung. Die haufigen Klagen von Patienten, die im Sitzen arbeiten mussen, lassen die Wichtigkeit dieser Frage erkennen. Herr Schoberth hat sich in eingehenden Untersuchungen mit der Physiologie des Sitzens, mit den Sitzschaden und mit den MaBnahmen zu ihrer Verhutung befaBt. Er konnte viele neue Befunde erheben. Die Formanderungen der Wirbel- saule beim Sitzen fUhren zu einseitiger statischer Beanspruchung. Dabei mussen die Muskeln des Schultergurtels, des Ruckens und des Bauches unter ungunstigen Bedingungen vermehrt Haltearbeit leisten. Auf Grund der Beobachtungen uber das Sitzen bei Gesunden und Kranken werden schlieBlich Richtlinien fUr den Bau von zweckmaBigen Sitzmobeln aufgestellt. Die Kenntnis der Gefahren langer- dauernden Sitzens ist fiir die Organisation des Unterrichts in der Schule und fUr den okonomischen Einsatz im ArbeitsprozeB von weitgehender Bedeutung.
