Dieser Sammelband beinhaltet ausgewahlte Beitrage der "Internatio- nalen Arbeitstagung des Deutschen Kollegiums fUr Psychosomatische Medizin und der Osterreichischen Gesellschaft fUr klinische Psycho- somatik", die vom 10. -13. Mlirz 1988 in Innsbruck stattfand. Die Tagung, die zeitlich mit dem 50. Jahrestag der Machtergreifung des Nationalsozialismus in Osterreich zusammenfiel, stand unter dem Motto "Gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen und psychosomatische Medizin". Gleichzeitig galt es, zwei Jubilaen zu begehen: Das erste, 75 Jahre psychosomatische Medizin in Osterreich, erinnert an den 8. Janner 1913, als Paul Federn in der Psychoanalytischen Mittwoch-Gesell- schaft bei Freud erstmals tiber ein explizit psychosomatisches Thema, die Behandlung eines an Asthma bronchiale erkrankten Patienten, referierte. Dieses Datum kann als Geburtsstunde der wissenschaftli- chen Psychosomatik angesehen werden. Ernst Federn, der Sohn Paul Federns, hielt dazu das Einleitungsreferat. Das zweite Jubilaum, der 80. Geburtstag Thure von Uexkiills, des Mentors der psychosomatischen Medizin in Deutschland und Initia- tors des Deutschen Kollegiums ftir Psychosomatische Medizin, war AnlaS, Person und Werk von Uexktills besonders zu wtirdigen. Sein Beitrag zu diesem Band "Vom Funktionskreis-zum Situationskreis- konzept" faBt die Weiterentwicklung des systemtheoretischen Funk- tionskreismodells Jacob von Uexktills in der Biologie zu einem neuen theoretischen Konzept der Medizin zusammen (s. auch von Uexktill u. Wesiack 1988), das die biologischen, psychischen und sozialen Realitaten des kranken Menschen und seiner Umwelt als zirkullire Prozesse beschreibt.
