Dies mag den au er- ordentlichen Umfang dieses Teiles des Ergänzungswerkes zum Gro en Jadassohn- schen Handbuch erklären, und es ist mir ein aufrichtiges Bedürfnis, schon an dieser Stelle dem Verlag dafür zu danken, da die Überschreitung der vorgesehenen Druckbogenzahl ohne Widerspruch hingenommen wurde. Um die Grö e nicht noch weiter auszudehnen, wurde bewu t darauf verzichtet, auf die Abhandlungen des Originalwerkes in grö erem Ma e zurückzugreifen, doch glaube ich, da der Anschlu überall so gefunden wurde, da die Kontinuität gewahrt blieb. Die Abbildungen des Originalwerkes sind so ausgezeichnet, da auf weitere Bilder bis auf einzelne Kapitel verzichtet werden konnte. Naturgemä hat es sich als nötig erwiesen, eine Reihe von Kapiteln neu einzubauen, hingegen andere weg- zulassen. Es schien zweckmä iger, die Syphilis des Skeletes, der Muskulatur und der inneren Organe vom pathologischen Anatomen bearbeiten zu lassen. Eine wesentliche Ausweitung mu te naturgemä die Besprechung der Therapie der Syphilis erfahren, denn hier war es wohl erforderlich, einerseits noch auf die früher geübte Arsenobenzol-Schwermetallbehandlung einschlie lich der mit dieser Therapie verbundenen Schäden einzugehen, andererseits aber die moderne Anti- biotica- und die Glucocorticosteroidmedikation besonders eingehend zu be- sprechen. Dasselbe ist von der Serodiagnostik zu sagen, welche durch die Ent- deckung des T. P. I. -Testes die Anschauungen bezüglich Therapieausma , Prognose und Heilung zu einem grundlegenden Wandel geführt hat.
