Der vorliegende Titel ist die zweite Auflage eines Buches, das fiir Studenten und Praktiker vorgesehen ist, die sich auf dem Gebiet der chemischen Technologie der Silicate spezialisieren. Es wurden unterschiedliche Literaturquellen aus der UdSSR und anderen Landern verwendet, die nach der Erfindung der katalysierten Kristalli- sation (1957) erschienen, und auch einige friihere Arbeiten, die sich mit dem Problem der Keimbildung und des Kristallwachstums beschii. ftigen. Die Notwendigkeit einer Systematisierung und Verallgemeinerung der Literatur, die in der vergangenen Zeit zu Fragen der Herstellung von Vitrokeramiken erschienen ist, ergab sich durch das allgemeine Interesse an diesem neuen Konstruktionswerkstoff. Nicht nur die Entwicklung neuer effektiver Konstruktionswerkstoffe, sondern auch die Verwendung von Sekund8. rrohstoffen in Form von Industrieanfallstoffen zur Herstellung von Baumaterialien ist von groBer Wichtigkeit. In Verbindung damit besitzen die Forschungen auf dem Gebiet der Vitrokeramiken und Schlackenvit- keramiken eine groBe wirtschaftliche Bedeutung. I Die historische Entwicklung ftihrte dazu, daB weder die Metallurgen noch die Kristall- physiker die Methode der katalysierten Kristallisation erfanden, sondern die Wissen- schaftler auf dem Gebiet der Silicatchemie, die die Temperprozesse von Glas unter- suchten. AuBerdem ist bekannt, daB es Metallurgen und Kristallphysiker waren, die jahrzehntelang die groBten Anstrengungen zur Klarung der Erscheinungen unter- nahmen, die mit den Prozessen der Keimbildung und des Kristallwachstums einher- gehen. Obwohl diese Anstrengungen bis zum heutigen Zeitpunkt noch keine end- giiltige Kristallisationstheorie bracliten, erlaubten sie es doch, unsere Kenntnisse auf dem genannten Gebiet stark zu erweitern.
