The book essentially presents the basic concepts of Shock Wave physics without using complex mathematical theories and attempts to explain the phenomenon of Shock Waves in terms of physical explanations. After laying the foundations for understanding the physics of Shock Wave phenomenon, the book describes the Reddy tube and the procedure for its calibration, ending with a brief description of its recently developed applications. Finally the book summarizes some of the recent applications of Shock Waves. · Shock Waves · Shock Tubes · Shock Tunnels · Unsteady Flows and Shock Waves · Practical Applications of Shock Waves

Dr. Chintoo S Kumar earned his research degree recently from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for his work on aerothermodynamics and he is Master of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Prof. K. Takayama is the leading expert on shock waves trained by legendry person Prof. I I Glass, considered as father of Shock Wave physics from Toronto, Canada. Prof. Takayama established famous Advance Centre for Shock Wave Research at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan which had sheltered majority of the shock wave researchers across the world. Prof. K P J Reddy has been working the field of shock waves and their applications for over two decades and is instrumental in establishing strong shock wave research community in India. He has been the spirit behind the building of the famous Laboratory for Hypersonic and Shock Wave Research in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc, Bangalore.
