O objetivo deste livro � compreender os modos de reprodu��o e transforma��o da vida social das uma lulik (casas sagradas) no Timor-Leste p�s-colonial a partir de tr�nsitos e transa��es entre pessoas, lugares e institui��es. O trabalho de campo que subsidiou a pesquisa foi realizado entre setembro de 2016 e dezembro de 2017. Os modos de reprodu��o das casas sagradas s�o analisados atrav�s de um conjunto de cerim�nias rituais em uma casa sagrada espec�fica que permite a atualiza��o das rela��es e alimenta os v�nculos das pessoas com o grupo de origem e a pr�pria casa sagrada. As transforma��es s�o tratadas a partir de dois tipos de eventos. O primeiro diz respeito �s motiva��es que mobilizam as pessoas que vivem em D�li e buscam os servi�os prestados por suas casas sagradas e seus oficiantes rituais fora de uma agenda de cerim�nias programadas. O segundo refere-se aos modos pelos quais ocorrem a apropria��o, a transposi��o e a espetaculariza��o de elementos dos complexos locais de governan�a, denominados kultura, para contextos de ger�ncia do Estado leste-timorense em D�li. Argumento que a vida social das casas sagradas tem se reproduzido e se transformado por meio de uma agenda ordin�ria e extraordin�ria de rituais. De um lado, as partes que comp�em as Casas s�o convocadas a se engajar em sua cont�nua reprodu��o mediante a participa��o ativa em cerim�nias de reinaugura��o das edifica��es das casas sagradas, sau batar, casamentos e rituais f�nebres. Grosso modo, essas s�o denominadas cerim�nias kultura. De outro lado, as Casas e entidades n�o humanas que as comp�em s�o mobilizadas para garantir trajet�rias de sucesso de seus membros nas institui��es de origem euro-ocidentais. As transforma��es das casas sagradas dizem respeito, tamb�m, ao modo como o Estado leste-timorense explora certas dimens�es de sua configura��o - sua dimens�o est�tica, sobretudo - como elemento de identidade nacional e incorpora autoridades rituais caracter�sticas das casas sagradas - os lia-na'in - como forma de organiza��o social em a��es rituais do pr�prio Estado. As informa��es discutidas na obra revelam ainda uma importante monetiza��o das trocas de d�divas nas cerim�nias kultura.
