Werte oder, wie sie hier genannt werden "langlebige kollektive Denkmuster", sind elementare Bestandteile der politischen Kultur. In unserer Zeit des welt- weiten Zusammenwachsens wird das Verständnis und die damit verknüpfte Er- forschung von Werten, Denkmustern und Denktypen immer wichtiger. Interna- tionale Einsätze mit dem Anspruch, dem Schutz der Menschenrechte zu dienen, unterstreichen die Dringlichkeit, sich mit der Werte-und Kulturproble- matik in vorurteilsfreier und entideologisierter Form auseinanderzusetzen. Die vorliegende Studie möchte dazu einen Beitrag leisten. Leider ist die Erforschung von Werten und Kultur mit gro en operationalen Problemen verbunden. In dieser Studie werden einige Vorschläge gemacht und explorativ umgesetzt. Konsequenterweise lie en sich aber für die Operationali- sierung noch Verbesserungen denken. Sprachliche und historische Besonderhei- ten könnten beispielsweise sprachwissenschaftlich viel stärker berücksichtigt werden, als das in diesem Rahmen möglich war. Insbesondere die Forderung nach einer quantitativen Begriffsanalyse hat sich hier als überaus problematisch erwiesen. Die wichtigsten inhaltlichen Spezifika einzelner Termini wurden ge- klärt, wünschenswert wäre jedoch eine zusätzliche quantitative Analyse der Be- grifflichkeiten in anderen Medien. Die Nutzung eines Zeitungskorpus, wie etwa in der Arbeit von Wolfgang Seck zu Gro britannien und Deutschland, erwies sich für diese Untersuchung als unpraktikabel. Da auf einer Tagung der EAJS in Berlin 1990 bekannt geworden war, da sich die Berichterstatter japanischer Zeitungen in Osteuropa wegen der inhaltlichen Konnotationen von Begriffen wie "Revolution" auf feste Begriffsverwendungen verständigt hatten, mu te auf die quantitative Sprachanalyse inZeitungen verzichtet werden.
