Das vorliegende Buch ist der zweite Teilbericht Uber ein komplexes For- schungsprojekt (Projekt C4 im Nordrhein-Westfiilischen Forschungsverbund Public Health: "Evaluation gerontopsychiatrischer Zentren und vergleichbarer Verbundsysteme unter besonderer Berlicksichtigung des Lebensweges alter Menschen nach gerontopsychiatrischer Behandlung", Projektleitung: Prof. Dr. GUnther Steinkamp). Es verdankt seine Entstehung einer Anregung des Mini- steriums fUr Arbeit und Gesundheit des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, die von der Expertenkommission der Bundesregierung zur Reform der Versorgung im psychiatrischen und psychotherapeutisch-psychosomatischen Bereich 1988 empfohlene flachendeckende Einrichtung Gerontopsychiatrischer Zentren (eine Kombination aus Tagesklinik, Ambulanz und Altenberatungsstelle) zunachst einer Evaluation zu unterziehen. Nach der ursprlinglichen Konzeption der Untersuchung sollte eine Versorgungsregion, in der ein Gerontopsychiatrisches Zentrum bereits institutionalisiert war (Kreis GUtersloh), mit zwei Versorgungs- regionen ohne ein solches Zentrum (Stadt Bielefeld und Stadt DUsseldorf) verglichen werden. Die nach mehrfach erfolgten KUrzungen schlieBlich fUr drei Jahre bewil- ligten Mittel! muBten auch zur Finanzierung einer ursprlinglich als Erganzungs- projekt zur vorliegenden Untersuchung konzipierten empirischen Studie ver- wandt werden, die sowohl aufVeranderungen von Struktur und Funktion sozia- ler Netzwerke nach klinisch-gerontopsychiatrischer Behandlung als auch deren mogliche Konsequenzen fUr eine Heimeinweisung fokussiert (P. NetziG. Stein- kamp/B. Werner: Psychisch gestOrte altere Menschen und ihre sozialen Netz- werke, Opladen: Leske + Budrich 1996). Die geschilderte Ressourcenknappheit erforderte Abstriche in der DurchfUhrung der vorliegenden Evaluationsstudie: Die ursprUnglich geplante Einbeziehung der Versorgungsregion DUsseldorf muBte unterbleiben.
