Entstehungshintergrund der vorliegenden Arbeit ist ein Forschungsprojekt fiber die Statuspassage in den sozialen Beruf, das im Rahmen des Sonderfor- schungsbereichs 186 an der UniversiUlt Bremen, "Statuspassagen und Risiko- lagen im Lebensverlauf. Institutionelle Steuerung und individuelle Hand- lungsstrategien" von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft zwischen 1988 und 1991 gef6rdert wurde. Die empirischen Ergebnisse, die unmittelbar dem Projektzusammenhang entstammen, finden sich in den Kapiteln II, 3 und III. Erika Grabke und Ursula Rabe-Kleberg, die das Projekt leitete, mochte ich an dieser Stelle danken. Nach AbschluB der Statuspassagenstudie und ausgelost durch die Ergebnisse wurden weitere Forschungsschritte durchgefiihrt. Es wurden die Professio- nalisierungskonzepte der untersuchten Nachwuchs-Sozialarbeiterlnnen er- schlossen, und fUr die Erorterung wurde die allgemeine Professionalisie- rungsproblematik der jiingeren, im Schatten des Staates' entstandenen Pro- fessionen rekapituliert sowie die Entstehung dieser Problematik in der Geschichte der Sozialarbeit. Der Dank gilt hier Walter R. Heinz und Susanna Kowalik. Ffir die Darstellung wurde yom Gang der Forschung abgewichen. Sie beginnt mit den Wissensbestiinden, zu deren Rekapitulation die empirischen Ergeb- nisse AnlaB gegeben haben. Das sind die historische Entwicklung der Sozi- alarbeit als Beruf und die gegenwilrtige Professionalisierungsdebatte. Ihnen folgt die Empirie nach, und die theoretische Rekonstruktion und zeitdiagno- stische Diskussion der Empirie bilden den SchluB.
