Seit den 60er Jahren ist die Familie in der Bundesrepublik Deutsch- land wie auch in anderen hochentwickelten Industriegesellschaften ausgeprägten Wandlungsprozessen unterworfen. Nach Ansicht zahl- reicher Autoren machen Ehe und Familie eine Krise durch (vgl. Per- rez 1979); einige sprechen sogar vom "Tod der Familie" (so Cooper 1972). Bevor man ein vorschnelles Urteil abgibt, sollte man beden- ken, da die gegenwärtigen familialen Veränderungen vor dem Hin- tergrund einer historisch einmaligen Situation gesehen werden müs- sen. Nie zuvor war eine Form von Ehe und Familie so dominant wie in der Nachkriegszeit bis etwa Mitte der 60er Jahre. Die gegenwär- tige Situation erscheint vielen auch deshalb als so krisenhaft, weil der Zustand vorher ungewöhnlich homogen war. Das 190derne Ehe- und Familienmodell - die modeme Kleinfamilie als selbständige Haushaltsgemeinschaft eines Ehepaares mit seinen minderjährigen Kindern, wobei der Mann Haupternährer und die Frau primär Mut- ter und Hausfrau ist - hatte sich faktisch und normativ (als unhinter- fragtes Leitbild) nahezu universell durchgesetzt . . Obwohl auch heute noch die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung nach kon- ventionellen Mustern lebt, dürfte kaum bestritten werden, da im Zuge des gesellschaftlichen Modernisierungsprozesses beträchtli- che Veränderungen weg von diesem Modell stattgefunden haben. Überall in den entwickelten Industrieländern sinkt die Geburtenrate. Die Heiratsneigung geht zurück, und immer häufiger lassen sich Ehepaare scheiden. All dies schlägt sich in einer Pluralisierung der Lebens-und Beziehungsformen, in einer "Entkoppelung und Aus- differenzierung der (ehemals) in Familie und Ehe zusammengefa - ten Lebens-und Verhaltenselemente" (Beck 1986, 164) und damit in einer Abkehr vom modemen Familientypus nieder.
