Weltbilder oder Kosmologien sind vorwissenschaftlich und vormodem und werden durch die Aufklärung entzaubert. Die Natur und der Kosmos geben uns keinen An- haltspunkt mehr, wie wir leben sollen. Im modemen Denkverkehr sind Kosmologien entsprechend kaum mehr bedeutsam und stellen allenfalls noch einen Gegenstand entlegener Fachgebiete dar, die sich mit Ursprung und Gestalt von Zeit und Raum sowie anderen 'letzten Dingen' befassen. - So die verbreitete Vorstellung. Dagegen will ich zeigen, dass Kosmologien als verborgene Hintergrundannahmen auch in der modemen Gesellschaft das Denken und Handeln bestimmen - und zwar in ganz alltäglichen Diskursen und Praktiken. Es liegen hier divergierende Weltbilder und Naturvorstellungen zugrunde und aus ihrer Divergenz entsteht Streit, wie ich hier insbesondere anhand von Konflikten um medizinische und landwirtschaftliche Prak- tiken darlegen möchte. Zum Beispiel: Ist AIDS eine Strafe Gottes für Unzucht, Promiskuität und den Kontakt mit Fremden? Oder kommt es von einem Virus, das irgendwann in Afrika von Affen auf den Menschen übersprang und sich von dort endemisch über die Welt ausbreitete? Oder ist das Virus in US-amerikanischen oder europäischen Laborato- rien bei gentechnologischen Experimenten zufallig entstanden? Ich will hier nicht diskutieren, wer Recht hat, sondern fragen, warum gerade diese Behauptungen - so oder so ähnlich - aufgestellt wurden und warum sie sich so hartnäckig halten. Meine These lautet: In jeder dieser drei Ursprungsmythen zur Entstehung der Immun- schwäche-Krankheit verkörpert sich beispielhaft eine eigene Kosmologie mit be- stimmten Vorstellungen über die äu ere Natur, über die Natur des Menschen und über die erwünschten Formen des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenlebens.
