The purpose of this book is to help physical education teachers and students as the organizers of athletic meet in understanding the track and its marking in detail on the open field and in conducting the meet. This is written according to the metric system so that while marking, the accurate measurements can be drawn in meters. The book refers to national & international norms. Athletics track is used for organizing athletics competitions as well as daily sports training, regional, local, school, college, university and various office competitions. But this track must be in accordance with the dimensions, equipment and rules prescribed by IAAF. At the level of national and international competitions, this track is made of synthetic material called TARTAN TRACK. Mostly get in red and blue colors. But in India this standard track is not available in all districts, departments, institutions, colleges of physical education and states. In many places, institutions, schools & colleges of physical education wide grounds are available which are made of soil, grass and ash. As per the requirement of various sports competitions & tournaments are organized on it, and whenever athletics competitions are to be organized only after calling skilled persons in the Track Marking. It should be marked only by expert track markers because it has to be according to the certified level of IAAF. Because it includes field events, everything is distributed to avoid injury & satisfy the needs of spectators. Usually this track marking is done only by the teachers, students of physical education & athletic’s coaches. This is a team work. In addition to this, there is a lot of work to be done in this field of each event like throwing sectors, jumping pit, staggers, relay exchange zones, start line, finish line of different races. The measure of these all sectors using geometrical formulas and then marking should be done. The author herself has been an outstanding runner of India.
