On July 16th, 1950, after 79 minutes of play in the final of the World Cup and in front of 200,000 passionate Brazilian fans, Alcides Edgardo Ghiggia scored a goal for Uruguay that defeated Brazil and left Maracana Stadium silent. It came to be the worst defeat in Brazil's history and one of the most famous in the history of soccer. Toni Padilla is a journalism professor at Blanquerna-Universitat Ramón Llull and has covered three World Cups in his career. He is the codirector of the radio program Marcador Internacional and is a founder of the magazine Panenka.
