Dentro de la evolución que han tenido las artes marciales japonesas durante los últimos siglos, sobreviven técnicas que fueron desarrolladas en el japón feudal para el combate real, para la guerra o para la propia supervivencia, un ejemplo es el Hodoki waza o técnicas de escape o liberación. El objetivo del Hodoki waza era principalmente liberarse de un agarre que impedía empuñar el arma para que una vez liberado del agarre se pudiese hacer uso de ella. En la actualidad las técnicas de escape juegan un papel importante en cualquier método de defensa personal, ya que son el puente de enlace entre la primera reacción del agredido y la posterior secuencia técnica de defensa. Consideramos necesario en cualquier escuela de budo/bujutsu o defensa personal el estudio serio y formal del Hodoki waza y en particular del Te hodoki (escapes de manos). En el presente trabajo desarrollamos principalmente el Te hodoki usado en las antiguas escuelas de Jujutsu y también en algunos katas olvidados del Judo tradicional, haciendo un recorrido sobre su historia, sobre los conceptos y principios básicos de aplicación, sobre anatomía y la capacidad funcional de las articulaciones, etc. En el capítulo técnico desarrollamos más de 40 series técnicas ante diversos agarres (agarres directos, invertidos, con dos manos, por detrás, a solapas etc).
