Professor Kovacevic holds his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sarajevo (1986) and postgraduate degrees from the University of Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina (M.Sc. 1997) and The City University, London (Ph.D. 2002). He began his career as Researcher at Sarajevo (1986), then Assistant Lecturer (1989) and Lecturer (1992) at Tuzla. In 1998 he joined City University London as Research Fellow in the Centre for Positive Displacement Compressor Technology, becoming Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Design (2004) and Howden Chair in Engineering Design and Compressor Technology (2008). In 2020 he received the James Clayton Prize from IMechE for contributions to fluid machinery, and in 2025 the J&E Hall Gold Medal from the Institute of Refrigeration. He also became Howden/Royal Academy Research Chair in Compressor Technology (2020). Prof. Kovacevic is Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, FIMechE and FRSA.
Matthew Read is Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at City St George's, University of London, and member of the Centre for Compressor Technology. He earned his MEng in Aerospace and Aerothermal Engineering from Cambridge and PhD from Imperial College London. His research focuses on low-temperature power generation, waste heat recovery, and compressor/expander technologies. He also has long-standing interests in power-train hybridisation, transmissions, and energy storage systems, the subject of his doctoral thesis.
Dr Sham Rane is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Compressor Technology, City St George's. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune, India, and worked as manufacturing engineer at Forbes Marshall India Pvt. Ltd. He continued at IIT Delhi specializing in Design of Mechanical Equipment. In 2008 he joined ANSYS FLUENT India Ltd. In 2014 he became Research Fellow at City, advancing CFD analysis in positive displacement machines. In 2018 he joined Oxford's Department of Engineering Science, working on Computational Aero-Thermal Engineering for Two-Phase Geothermal Turbines. At City St George's he develops grid generation technology and software, available as SCORG via PDM Analysis Ltd. His interests include multiphase flow analysis in twin screw compressors, CFD modelling of oil-injected machines, and ORC rotary vane compressors and expanders.
Ms Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic is Research Project Coordinator at City St George's and Co-Chair of the 14th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems. She holds BsC and MsC degrees in Computer Science from the University of Sarajevo, plus a second BsC in Business from its Faculty of Economics and Business. She is pursuing an MBA at Bayes Business School. Her career spans software, web and VR development, teaching, management, and marketing, combining technology, research, and business expertise.
Mr Halil is a PhD student in Compressor Technology, specializing in Internally Geared Screw Machines at the Centre for Compressor Technology. He holds a Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sarajevo and began his doctoral studies in 2022. His research explores innovative projects in Internally Geared Screw Machines, alongside experience in software engineering and microcontroller applications for industry. He is also interested in emerging technologies such as AI, AR, and VR. Halil contributes to teaching at City University London as an assistant in Engineering courses.
