Vorangegangen waren manche Tage des Erkundens, des Priifens, des Erwagens, des Verwerfens, ausgeflillt durch freudige Entdeckung, aber auch erniich- ternde Erkenntnis. Weitere Tage sollten folgen, an denen sich eins zum anderen fligte und die vorbereiteten Konzepte ihre endgiiltige Gestalt erhielten. Das Ergebnis betrachtend mag unglaubwiirdig erscheinen, daB der aufgezeichnete Weg jemals iiber Gabelungen und Umwege flihrte. Diejenigen, die mir vorausgingen, wissen aber urn diesen Umstand und konnen das Forschergliick im Angesicht des erreichten Zieles errnessen. Zu Dank verpflichtet bin ich all jenen, die mir Orientierung gaben, flir Proviant sorgten, das Gepack trugen und am Endpunkt erwarteten.
