Auch dieses Lehrbuch entstand unter den Kriegsverhiiltnissen und ist bestimmt, den hierdurch hervorgerufenen wirtschaftlicheren Fabrikationsmethoden zur Herstellung austauschbarer Einzelteile im Maschinenbau eine einheitlich-technische Grundlage zu geben. Das hier Gebotene ist nicht neu, wohl aber viel zu wenig in den Kreisen bekannt, welche sich mit der Herstellung aus- tauschbarer Einzelteile in Zukunft werden beschaftigen miissen. Nicht allein der GroBbetrieb soIl die Erzeugungsstelle sein, welche Industriefabrikate mit dem geringsten Aufwand an Material, Loh- nen und Unkosten herstellt; auch der mittlere und Kleinbetrieh mull in derselben Weise arbeiten, um seine ebenso wichtige Auf- gabe zu erfiillen. Die kleineren und mittleren Betriebe arbeiteten aber bisher wenig nach den Grundsatzen wirtschaftlichster Ferti- gung, denn diese Grundsatze haben sich erst unter den Kriegs- verhiiltnissen zu einer allgemein brauchbaren Form durchgebildet. Wenn auch in den Kreisen der GroBindustrie die technischen Grundlagen zur Herstellung austauschbarer Einzelteile im allge- meinen wohl schon vor dem Kriege bekannt waren, so wurde deren strenge Durchfiihrung doch nicht in dem MaBe gehandhabt, wie dies jetzt unter dem Drucke der Verhaltnisse geschieht und wie dies spater besonders in der tJbergangswirtschaft noch weit mehr geschehen muB. 1m Kleinbetriebe herrschte aber bisher in der Regel die denkbar grOBte Unkenntnis in den GrundlageIll fiir die wirtschaftlichste Herstellung austauschbarer Einzelteile. Die Griinde hierfiir sind naheliegend, - es fehlten die Grund- bedingungen fiir wirtschaftlichste Arbeitsweise, namlich die Reihen-- oder Massenherstellung der Einzelteile. IV Vorwort.
