La mauvaise gestion des d�chets et la pollution des eaux c�ti�res comptent parmi les principaux probl�mes environnementaux � Kiribati, en particulier � Tarawa-Sud. Une �tude a �t� men�e dans des zones adjacentes � des sites d'enfouissement c�tiers: Betio, � Kiribati, et Auckland, en Nouvelle-Z�lande. L'�tude de cas � Kiribati a port� sur la contamination par les m�taux des s�diments marins � proximit� d'un site d'enfouissement en activit�, tandis que l'�tude en Nouvelle-Z�lande concernait une zone adjacente � un site d'enfouissement c�tier d�saffect� dans les ann�es 1970. Des s�diments superficiels (15 premiers centim�tres) ont �t� pr�lev�s le long de transects. Sur les sites n�o-z�landais et kiribatiens, trois transects adjacents � la d�charge et un transect t�moin ont �t� �chantillonn�s. Les s�diments ont �t� analys�s pour d�terminer la distribution granulom�trique, la teneur en mati�re organique et les concentrations en Cd, As, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, Ni et Zn. Le pH a �galement �t� mesur�. L'�tude apporte de nouvelles informations pour Kiribati, o� ce type de mesures n'avait jamais �t� r�alis� auparavant, et fournit �galement une revue de la litt�rature claire et exhaustive sur le sujet.
