Das Sammeln und Ordnen fremder Untersuchungsergebnisse steht im Vordergrund; die eigene sch6pferische Arbeit dringt immer seltener auf direktem Wege an die Offentlichkeit, weil der betreffende Personenkreis meist in der prak- tischen Arbeit steht und fiir zusatzliche technisch-publizistische Tatig- keit wenig Zeit hat. Gerade dieser Kreis aber ist es, der der Fachwelt besonders viel zu sagen wiiEte, und es ist unendlich schade, daE manche wertvolle Erfahrung aus der Praxis auf eine kleine Anzahl von Per- sonen beschrankt bleibt. Das vorliegende Buch will dazu beitragen, diesen Mangel zu be- seitigen. Dabei ist der Schwerpunkt weder auf die praktische noch auf die wissenschaftliche Seite allein gelegt; wesentlich erscheint die prak- tisch-wissenschaftliche Synthese. Der Zufall wollte es, daE ich vor 11/2 Jahrzehnten in Nordafrika zum erstenmal mit Flachbaggergeraten in Beriihrung kam. Sie sind seitdem zu meinen stillen Begleitern geworden, und die Probleme ihres Einsatzes haben mich nicht mehr losgelassen.
