En el dise�o de un sistema de distribuci�n de agua (SDA), intervienen variables de naturaleza hidr�ulica que caracterizan funcionalmente el sistema hidr�ulico; cuando el objetivo econ�mico est� presente en el problema, deberemos considerar los costos asociados a cada uno de los elementos del sistema, as� como su relaci�n con las variables hidr�ulicas. En el presente libro se han revisado los principales conceptos y m�todos relacionados con el dimensionado hidr�ulico y econ�mico de las conducciones de impulsi�n con tuber�as de polietileno de alta densidad (PEAD), siendo el objetivo de todos ellos minimizar los costos de los sistemas de distribuci�n de agua, en especial, en los sistemas fuentes, cuyo funcionamiento est� sujeto a una serie de condicionantes y restricciones t�cnicas. Las tuber�as de PEAD son valoradas por su durabilidad, resistencia a la corrosi�n, flexibilidad, ligereza y capacidad para soportar presiones y condiciones adversas, lo que los hace ideales para utilizarlos en una amplia variedad de aplicaciones en los sectores de la construcci�n, hidr�ulica (sistemas de distribuci�n y conducci�n de agua potable y sistemas de alcantarillado y drenaje pluvial), miner�a, industrial, entre otros. Las obras de aducci�n representan frecuentemente una parcela sustancial de los costos globales de un sistema de distribuci�n de agua. Por este motivo, y adem�s por el hecho de ser la componente m�s importante desde el punto de vista del funcionamiento cuantitativo y la m�s delicada de operar y mantener, su estudio debe ser elaborado a trav�s de una cuidada ponderaci�n de los aspectos t�cnicos y econ�micos. El componente econ�mico es un criterio fundamental en el dimensionado de los sistemas de distribuci�n de agua, puesto que, para un conjunto dado de condiciones de funcionamiento compatibles entre s�, existir�n varias soluciones que resulten t�cnicamente v�lidas, y en tal caso, el costo de las diversas soluciones ser� la caracter�stica que, en �ltima instancia, identificar� la mejor variante.
