Dem Reichtum heuristischer Erkenntnisse, welche uns diese Methode verschafft, steht ihre im MaBstabe der technischen Wirklichkeit nur beschrankte Reichweite gegeniiber: Die Beschaftigung mit dem Einzelelektron bleibt doch lediglich ein Ge- dankenexperiment; die reale Elektronik hat es stets mit Erscheinungen zu tun, bei we1chen eine ungeheure, ja menschlichem Vorstellungsvermogen unfaBbar groBe Zahl von Elektronen beteiligt ist. Spielt nun das Einzel- elektron eine vorwiegend passive Rolle, in welcher es sich den jeweils ge- gebenen Bedingungen anzupassen hat, so bildet dagegen die Gemeinschaft der gleichzeitig stromenden Elektronen ein durchaus aktives "Volk", welches nach MaBgabe seiner physikalischen Eigenschaften am Aufbau seines Lebensraumes und dessen schlieBlicher Gestalt wesentlichen Anteil nimmt: Aus den von auBeren Kraften aufgezwungenen elektrodynamischen Feldern des vorher leeren Raumes sind nunmehr Raumladungs/elder ge- worden, in welchen mechanische und elektromagnetische Vorgange unlosbar miteinander verkoppelt sind; die Analyse ihrer Gesetze bildet das Ziel des vorliegenden zweiten Bandes der "Inneren Elektronik". Fiir die gewiinschte Untersuchung stehen uns zwei unterschiedliche Verfahren zur Verfiigung: Von der Mikrostruktur der Raumladung ab- strahierend, kann man die Elektronengesamtheit als kontinuierlich ver- teilte Materie auffassen, deren Stromung mittels der Begriffe der F eld- theorie im Verein mit jenen der Hydrodynamik beschrieben wird. Geht man dagegen von den individuellen Teilchen der Raumladung aus, so fiihrt erst deren Statistik iiber die Erwartungswerte der Mikroverteilung zur Kenntnis der Makroerscheinungen.
