Allerdings wird dieses Hilfsmittel auch nur dann eingesetzt und akzeptiert, wenn der zusatzliche Aufwand in einem ökonomischen Verhältnis zu der Qualität der erzielten Ergebnisse steht. Unter dem Eindruck tendenziell sinkender Preise beim technischen Gerät und steigender Aufwendungen für die Entwicklung" von Anwendungen versucht man einerseits, die Anwender direkt an ihrem Arbeitsplatz mit Rechenkapazität zu versorgen, und andererseits für die Kommunikation zwischen Mensch und Maschine benutzernahe, leicht zu erlernende und oft selbsterklärende Dialogformen zu finden. Mit diesen Ansprüchen werden viele Systeme auf dem Markt angeboten, aber fast ebenso oft kann man Fehlschläge bei deren Einsatz beobachten.
