Vor nunmehr rund 70 Jahren erhielt die Statik der Ingenieurtragwerke ihre heute noch giiltige Form. CULMANN, RITTER, MOHR, MULLER-BRESLAU um nur einige der bedeutendsten Namen zu nennen, waren die Schopfer dieser Leistung, nachdem das achtzehnte Jahrhundert und im neunzehnten Jahrhundert Mathe- matiker wie POISSON, CAUCHY, CLEBSCH, MAXWELL, ST-VENANT die theo- retischen Grundlagen geschaffen hatten. In den achtziger Jahren gab MULLER- BRESLAU der Statik der mehrfach standfesten Tragwerke ihre klassische Form in Darstellung und Bezeichnungsweise. Es war jene Theorie, welche im vorliegen- den Werk als das "Kraftverfahren" bezeichnet wird und welche die Berechnung der Tragwerke in rein analytische Form brachte. Doch befriedigte diese analytische Form keineswegs. Das abstrakte Denken sagt vielen nicht zu, weshalb man "anschauliche" Berechnungsweisen suchte. MOHR vor allem setzte die Bemiihungen fort, ein auf die Formanderungen ge- griindetes Verfahren zu finden, aber erst seinem SchUler GEHLER gelang 1913 der entscheidende Schritt vorwarts. Nach ihm baute MANN 1927 die Methode, welche hier das "Formanderungsverfahren" genannt wird, entscheidend aus. Aber damit war auch dieses Verfahren zu einem rein analytischen geworden, nicht minder abstrakt als das 50 Jahre friiher entwickelte Kraftverfahren.
