Die Gebilde der Technik sind durch Stoff und Form bestimmt. Wenn wir hinsichtlich der Formgebung hauptsachlich an ihre funktionellen Z'wecke zu denken pfiegen, so bleibt doch giiltig, daB im Grund aIle Formgebung auf geometrischen Gegebenheiten beruht, ja, diese be- herrschen oft genug noch die Endform eines Gebildes, wie z. B. bei schraubigen und evolventischen FHichen. Es erscheint darum nur als naturlich, die Geometrie behutsam auch in das Normungsdenken einzu- beziehen, das dadurch selbst einen unanfechtbaren Ruckhalt gewinnen kann. Wir gestehen, daB wir hierauf nicht aus "Normungseifer" gekommen sind, sondern unter dem Eindruck einer bestimmten geometrischen Auf- gabe von bemerkenswerter technischer Reichweite, der Frage namlich, welche geometrischen Formen die Eigenschaft haben, sich in kongruenter Wiederholung lUckenlos aneinanderzuschlieBen (wie Quadrate oder regel- maBige Sechsecke). Von dieser zunachst a bstrakt gesteIlten Aufga be sind sogleich die beiden Nutzanwendungen zu nennen: einmal der Aufbau einer Gesamtfiache aus kongruenten Flachenteilen, z. B. eines Bodens aus Fliesen, und zum andern die Zerlegung einer Gesamtfiache in Gestalt von fiachem Halbzeug, wie Blech oder Papier, in gleiche Werkstucke. Jenem Aneinanderpassen ohne zu fUllende Lucken entspricht hier das Trennen ohne wegzuwerfende Abfalle. Diese Aufgabe, die in der Mathematik nach D. HILBERT (1900 [2]) das "regulare Parkettierungsproblem" genannt wird, hat ihre voIlstandige Losung fur aIle Formen der luckenlosen Aufteilung in einem System von 28 Konstruktionsgesetzen, die der eine Verfasser (H.) 1932 fand. In diesem System liegt somit eine sehr weitgreifende Grundnorm vor.
