Wer allerdings tiefer in dieses Gebiet einsteigen und beispielsweise die (meist englische) For- schungsliteratur lesen m�chte, wird mit einer F�lle von Modellen und Begriffen konfrontiert, die er, wenn �berhaupt, nur m�hsam in den Lehrb�chern oder in den Literaturverweisen findet. Das vorliegende Handbuch will hier eine Hilfestellung geben. Im Gegensatz zu einem Lehrbuch ist es nicht didaktisch, sondern systematisch aufgebaut. Daher sind Grundkenntnisse �ber neuronale Netze f�r das Verst�ndnis des Buches �u- erst n�tzlich, wenngleich es durchaus als Einf�hrung dienen kann. Sein Haupt- zweck ist jedoch der, dem Leser umfangreiche Nachschlagem�glichkeiten f�r deutsche und englische Begriffe sowie f�r die wichtigsten Netzmodelle zu geben. Bei der gro en Zahl der bisher in der Literatur untersuchten Netztypen ist es nicht m�glich, s�mtliche Modelle aufzuf�hren. Statt dessen wurden nur wenige typische Modelle ausgewahIt, aber bis in alle Einzelheiten beschrieben. Diese Angaben sollten Z.B. als Grundlage f�r Simulationsprogramme ausreichen. Das Handbuch beschr�nkt sich auf ein enges, aber grundlegendes und wichtiges Teilgebiet neuronaler Netze. Nat�rliche Nervennetze weisen, ebenso wie einige Netzmodelle, ein zeitkontinuierliches Verhalten auf. Dagegen arbeiten die mei- sten Modelle mit einem Zeittakt; daher befa t sich dieses Buch ausschlie lich mit zeitdiskreten neuronalen Netzen. Auf statistische Methoden wird, obgleich sie in der Theorie eine bedeutende Rolle spielen, ebenfalls nicht eingegangen. Dem Verlag und insbesondere den Anregungen des Lektors, Herrn Dr. Reinald Klockenbusch, ist es zu verdanken, da dieses Buch erscheinen konnte.
